Our specialties include:

General Dentist

Usually people will go to a general dentist for the majority of their dental treatment. A general dentist can treat all types of patients, from young to old, from "baby teeth" to "wisdom teeth." There are some dental conditions, however, for which your normal dentist will refer you to consult with a specialist. In this case they will rely on the recommendations and guidance of the specialist to bring your mouth back to health.

Endodontist

An Endodontist is a specialist who diagnoses and studies the causes of diseases affecting the pulp or nerve of the tooth, and the tissues on teeth.  These nerves, arteries and veins inside teeth serve to help them alive. The most common procedure performed by an endodontist is called root canal therapy. Root canal treatment consists of removing the infected tissue inside the tooth, sterilizing the inside, and filling the internal cavity of the tooth with a special filling material. After this procedure, the tooth is considered "non-vital."

Oral Pathologist

Oral pathologists are dental specialists concerned with studying the nature of diseases which alter and affect the oral structures (teeth, lips, cheeks, jaw bones) as well as parts of the face and neck. In most cases you will not see an oral pathologist for treatment.  Instead, your dentist will send them test samples, a biopsy or any questionable tissue or lesion in order to get their opinion.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who diagnose and treat diseases, defects or injuries of the mouth, head and neck with surgery. One of the most common procedures of these surgeons is the removal of wisdom teeth. However, they are also involved with treating many other conditions such as of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD). In accident cases they may be asked to help with broken bones of the face and jaw. Sometimes they work with cosmetic dentists or orthodontists to realign bones for better jaw position or improved esthetics and function. Many surgeons now assist with placing dental implants, or the root of missing teeth.

Orthodontist

Orthodontists use corrective devices, such as braces and retainers, to straighten crooked teeth and/or repair irregular bite patterns. Since the development of new clear and "invisible" braces, orthodontists have shifted their focus from only children and teenagers to also serve adults with cosmetic and functional dental issues.

Orthodontists can align crooked teeth and correct improper bites, but it is important to remember that results can take years in some cases. Before you begin any treatment, you should investigate which program is best for you.

Pediatric Dentist (Pedodontist)

Pedodontists are specialists who treat children from birth through adolescence, with treatment usually starting at age three..  They are specially trained to handle the fears of children and to study the growth patterns of a child's mouth.  Pedodontists often receive additional training for the proper care of patients with special needs who demonstrate mental, physical, and/or emotional  problems.

Periodontist

A periodontist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats diseases of the gum and supporting bone surrounding the teeth. They are most often called upon to treat infections of the gums which cause teeth to become loose. Usually, a general dentist will refer patients to a periodontist to evaluate the "foundation" of the teeth before any reconstructive procedures. They also place implants for areas of missing teeth and can surgically make changes in the gum tissue for a more natural gum smile line. Working with a general dentist, they can bring a patient's mouth back to full bite function with a full healthy smile.

Prosthodontist

Prosthodontists are dentist specialists who repair natural teeth and/or replace missing teeth on a much larger scale than a general dentist. The prosthodontist uses artificial teeth (dentures), gold crowns (caps), or ceramic crowns to replace the missing or extracted teeth. They work with the general dentist on more complicated dental reconstruction cases. Most people fortunately will not need the extensive care provided by a prosthodontist.
